Jennifer “Jenny” Marie Banfai of Kingston, Ontario, has died following a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, according to her published obituary. She was 37 years old. The announcement describes her death as a devastating loss for her family and friends, who are now mourning a woman remembered for the relationships she built throughout her life.

Jenny leaves behind her husband, Chris McKendy, and their two young children, Tommy, who was three years old, and Lillian, who was only two and a half months old at the time of her death. She is also survived by her mother, Michèle Macartney-Filgate; her father, Geza Banfai and his wife Catherine Karakatsanis; her brother Thomas Banfai and his partner Kieran Daly; and her stepbrother Alexander Karakatsanis. The obituary says she is also mourned by a wide circle of friends, teaching colleagues and students.

The circumstances described in the obituary make the loss particularly heartbreaking for those closest to Jenny. Her sudden death in a motor vehicle accident came while she was a young mother and wife, leaving her family and wider community to cope with an unexpected loss. The published memorial does not provide additional details about the accident itself, so those circumstances are best left to official information rather than speculation.

Funeral arrangements have been announced through Heritage Funeral Centre in Toronto. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral centre on Overlea Boulevard. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the same location.

In place of flowers, Jenny’s family has asked mourners to consider making memorial donations to Pathways to Education Canada, an organization connected to a cause she was deeply passionate about. As family, friends, colleagues and students gather to remember her, the focus will be on honoring the life she lived and the people she touched. Her passing leaves behind a grieving family and a community facing the difficult task of remembering Jenny while supporting those closest to her.
