Ella Jenkins, an 18-year-old from Gray, Georgia, is being remembered after losing her life in a three-vehicle crash in Laurens County. Jenkins was a freshman at Brewton-Parker Christian University and a member of the Lady Barons softball team. Her death has brought grief to her family, friends, classmates and teammates, as a young life filled with promise was suddenly cut short.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened Sunday evening, September 27, at the intersection of Georgia Highway 31 and Springhaven Road. Investigators said a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado failed to stop at the intersection and struck a flatbed trailer being pulled by a 1995 Peterbilt. The pickup then rotated into other lanes and collided with a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro.

Jenkins was a passenger in the Chevrolet Colorado and was ejected during the collision. She suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Authorities closed a section of Georgia Highway 31 for more than two hours while emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene. The Georgia State Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing.

At Brewton-Parker Christian University, Jenkins’ death has been felt across the campus community. The university confirmed her passing and asked students, faculty, friends and supporters to keep her family, softball teammates, classmates and everyone who knew and loved her in their thoughts and prayers. For her teammates, the loss is especially painful, as they now face the absence of a young athlete who had only just begun her college journey.
